A certified addictions worker who’s been involved in the music industry since 1996, Ace Piva knows the ins and outs of the road and its associated pressures and struggles. He’s been there as a musician, tour manager, stage manager, sound engineer, production manager, and addictions recovery coach. Today, Piva is a founding partner, of Over The Bridge. His goals are to help break the stigmas associated with addiction and mental illness through education, awareness, and support and provide resources to musicians, crew and entertainment professionals..

Cole is no stranger to the ups and downs of the music industry. From playing solo and touring as a bassist, to running sound, recording, coordinating festivals and handling promotion and marketing, she has a broad range and 15 years of experience. For years she supplemented her earnings with minimum wage jobs, learning the value of hard work as she worked her way up from the bottom. Her determination landed her a job as general operations manager for Indie Week Canada which allowed her to work with hundreds of artists during a two-year span and provided her a platform for learning and career expansion in Toronto.

Smith has seen many artists struggle with addiction and mental health issues. She’s also lost fellow musicians to suicide. As someone who is diagnosed with bipolar disorder, she feels it is her personal duty to make a difference in the lives of as many musicians as possible and help them successfully manage their mental health issues as well as the disease of addiction. She believes no one should have to suffer in order to do what they love.

Dayana Romero is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. She is also a member of the Canadian Psychological Association. She has a bachelor’s degree in Counseling from Canada Christian College from 2005. A Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Yorkville University from 2010 and (eventually) from the University of Liverpool, a Masters of Arts in Forensic Psychology (ABD). She has training in PTSD and addictions for various courses and college/university programs she has taken throughout the years. Her area of expertise also includes depression, anxiety, PTSD and addictions. She speaks both English and Spanish and on some days needs a dictionary to figure out both languages. Dayana is an approved healthcare practitioner under the Non-Insure Health Benefits program which provides psychotherapy to Indigenous individuals with Native Status. Being of an Indigenous background herself, Dayana takes great pride in working in her community along with her Spaniard and Jewish roots.

She has been a guest speaker at the Ontario Medical Association, Primary Care Today Conference, Indie Week, religious organizations, schools and events throughout the last 10 years of her profession. She has done interviewed by podcasts, asked to be a guest by some TV channels & radio stations and written an article for KMA Therapy. Working in mental health is Dayana’s life long passion and she is proud to be working with Over the Bridge.

Doug Goldstein first stepped into the music industry in 1978 working in event security eventually becoming the personal security guard for Air Supply, Van Halen, David Lee Roth, Black Sabbath, and Heat. In 1987, Doug joined Guns N’ Roses as tour manager and ultimately became the band’s manager in 1991, a role he filled until 2002.

In addition to Guns N’ Roses, Doug has worked and managed the careers of some of the world’s top music talent including Blind Melon, Danzig, Xzibit, and Anthrax.

Today Goldstein works with Matthew’s Hope Foundation in Houston, Texas, dedicating his life to saving lives through helping those struggling with opioid addiction, as well as their families, recover, become whole again and celebrate life.

Faisal Khawaja is a community pharmacist and the Operations Manager at Marchese Health Care. He has over 25 year’s experience in many areas including diabetes, pain management, mental health, and addiction. He is a Certified Diabetes Educator and is the palliative care pharmacist for two hospices in the City of Hamilton. Over the years, he has given lectures on many subjects. Recently, he has devoted much of his time to building public awareness of the opioid overdose epidemic and providing training to many hundreds of people in several communities in Ontario.

In 2017, Faisal was inspired by OTB’s vision to reach out to those in the music community suffering from addiction and mental health. Since then, he has worked with OTB on several events, providing substance abuse education and opioid overdose training. He hopes to contribute ideas, energy, and perspective to OTB’s program development and governance activities.

Jessica Lemmon is the president and founder of Lemmon Entertainment. LE was created to capitalize on Jessica’s expertise, relationships, vision, and knowledge with a full-service white label solution for clients looking to activate in the live event space. The company specializes in branded experiential initiatives, music festivals, tours, private events, award shows, and more.

Jessica has a 15+ year history in the live event music industry working her way up from selling merchandise and tour managing to working for a variety of Canadian music industry stalwarts like Live Nation, Bernie Breen Management, and Embrace Presents.

Jessica has first-hand experience in dealing with depression and anxiety as well as the challenges attached with overcoming them in the high-pressure, stress-filled work environment of the event industry. Jessica also puts a large focus ensuring that people’s health, safety, and welfare are priorities on projects she is involved in and has often acted as a resource and sounding board for many others within the industry.

Heather is a communications professional with over 15 years of experience working with leading brands across a variety of industries to launch products, tell stories, build profile and manage reputations. A devoted fan of live music, she was a project manager for Bacardi’s B-LIVE Canadian concert series featuring international and emerging artists at Pemberton Music Festival and Virgin Fest. In her role with Over The Bridge she will help raise awareness of the organization and its important mandate to educate, train and support members of the music industry regarding mental health and addiction recovery.

Paola Palazzo is the current Vice President – Talent of Live Nation Canada and has served as Vice President of Entertainment Industry Relations and Event Development for the Barclays Center. With over 30 years of music experience, Paola has also served as Vice President of Booking for The Forum in Los Angles, Vice President of Talent and Booking for Nederlander Concerts, Senior Talent Buyer at House of Blues Concerts and a Music Agent at Creative Artists Agency.

Paola has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including the “Music Business Achievement Award” at the Hamilton Music Awards, has been recognized in Billboard Magazine’s “Women in Music” a nominated for Pollstar’s “Talent Buyer of the Year,” Women of Influence Award by Venues Today, as well as the Los Angeles Business Journals “Women Making A Difference” award.

Marie Sweeney comes from a business background in the fashion and beauty and luxury travel industries. The majority of the companies she has worked with were new business that now benefit from successful and growing teams. She has assisted many of these companies with establishing annual fundraisers and joint ventures for causes ranging from Beauty Night Society to Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.

Sweeney is the eldest daughter in a family with two Canadian military parents. This has led to her unique perspective on how the pressures of career—in all aspects of society affect both mental health and addiction, and how these challenges vary across the many regions and cultures within Canada. Additionally, she has had her own struggles with addiction and mental health and considers herself a survivor in continuous training.

Sweeney finds strength in providing behind-the-scenes support to the many amazing people who have assisted in her recovery and growth and believes her best chance of continuing on a healthy and happy life journey is to ensure others in high-risk careers have all the tools and opportunities that she was lucky enough to be exposed to.
